India is the world’s largest two-wheeler market and one of the fastest-growing EV markets. The transition from internal combustion to electric is producing one of the most significant engineering hiring waves the country has seen — from powertrain engineers to battery cell researchers to charging infrastructure architects. Ola Electric, Ather Energy, Ultraviolette, Euler Motors, Log9 Materials, and dozens of smaller players are all scaling their engineering teams.
India’s EV policy — FAME-II subsidies, Production Linked Incentive schemes, and state-level charging mandates — has accelerated investment. The 2W and 3W segments are already seeing rapid EV penetration; 4W passenger vehicles and commercial trucks are the next frontier. This creates sustained demand for embedded, electrical, and mechanical engineers who understand electrification. The supply chain is also indigenising, with battery cell manufacturing and power semiconductor production beginning to take root.
Battery Management System (BMS) Engineer — Design and implement the hardware and software that monitors cell voltages, temperatures, and state-of-charge/state-of-health. Covers battery pack architecture, cell balancing algorithms, and safety interlocks. Python and C are the primary languages.
Power Electronics Engineer — Design inverters, DC-DC converters, on-board chargers, and motor drives. Work with switching topologies (buck, boost, LLC), gate drivers, and thermal management. Strong background in magnetics and MOSFET/IGBT characteristics required.
Motor Control Engineer — Implement field-oriented control (FOC) and direct torque control algorithms for BLDC and PMSM motors. Real-time C/C++ on microcontrollers (STM32, TI C2000) with MATLAB/Simulink model-based development.
Embedded Systems / ECU Software Engineer — Develop ECU software following AUTOSAR architecture, implement communication stacks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet), and integrate subsystems under functional safety constraints (ISO 26262). ASPICE and MISRA C compliance experience is valued.
Battery Technology / Electrochemistry Researcher — Work on cell chemistry, electrolyte formulation, electrode materials, and degradation mechanisms. Typically requires a postgraduate background in electrochemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering.
Vehicle Dynamics Engineer — Tune suspension geometry, braking systems, and NVH characteristics for EV platforms. The shift to EVs introduces new dynamics considerations — lower CoG, instant torque, regenerative braking — that require fresh approaches to chassis tuning.
Charging Infrastructure Engineer — Design AC/DC charging stations, implement communication protocols (OCPP, ISO 15118), and manage grid integration. A fast-growing niche as India’s charging network expands.
EV companies look for engineers with hands-on experience — battery pack builds, inverter prototypes, or motor drive test rigs carry more weight than purely theoretical knowledge. For embedded roles, ISO 26262 awareness and AUTOSAR experience significantly increase competitiveness. Mechanical engineers with experience in lightweight structures and thermal management are also in strong demand. Most of the hiring is concentrated in Bengaluru, Pune, and Chennai, with manufacturing roles in Tier 2 cities.
