We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Vacuum Chamber Design and Integration Engineer to join our team and contribute to groundbreaking experiments.
**Job Summary:** The Design/Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design and testing of the technical drawings of mechanical components e. g. vacuum chamber design and integration. The person will also lead and monitor the overall manufacturing, and execution of mechanical components and vacuum chambers tailored for laser plasma experiments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vacuum technology and mechanical engineering, with experience in integrating complex systems for high-intensity laser applications.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. **Design and Development:**
* Design mechanical components such as mounts for large optics .
* Design vacuum chambers capable of achieving high vacuum levels (10^-6 mbar) with various geometries and sizes to accommodate experimental requirements.
* Ensure chambers are equipped with multiple ports for diagnostics of photon and charged particles.
* Collaborate with the team to integrate liquid and gas-based targets, considering the impact on vacuum systems.
2. **Manufacturing and Assembly:**
* Oversee the manufacturing process , ensuring adherence to specifications and quality standards.
* Ensure all chambers pass mechanical and structural stability tests to meet safety and performance criteria.
* Coordinate the design, manufacturing and assembly of optics and optomechanics, ensuring compatibility with vacuum conditions.
3. **Integration and Testing:**
* Integrate vacuum chambers with existing or upcoming vacuum beam lines for efficient laser pulse guidance.
* Conduct testing and validation of vacuum systems, vacuum pumps, gauges, gate valves, ensuring optimal performance under experimental conditions.
4. **Collaboration and Support:**
* Work closely with physicists, engineers, and technicians to ensure seamless project execution.
* Provide technical support and troubleshooting during experiments, addressing any issues related to vacuum integrity or system performance.
5. **Documentation and Reporting:**
* Maintain detailed documentation of design processes, manufacturing procedures, and experimental results.
* Prepare reports and presentations for project updates and stakeholder meetings.
**Qualifications:**
* Bachelor’s or Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
* Experience in vacuum technology and mechanical design.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for designing vacuum systems and components.
* Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) software (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) for structural stability testing is a plus.
* Familiarity with optics and optomechanics, including vacuum-compatible materials and components.
* Experience with liquid and gas target systems in vacuum environments is an advantage.
