As a Robotics R&D Engineer, your core mission is to explore the global landscape of innovative robots — studying their designs, capabilities, and underlying simulation tools — and then bring them to life through rigorous modelling and simulation. You will investigate what the world’s most advanced robotic systems do, identify which simulation environments capture their behaviour most faithfully, build accurate computational model s, and run experiments that yield insights for Cosmoserve’s own system development. From there, you will prototype novel concepts and propose innovative solutions grounded in what you have learned. K E Y R E S P O N S I B I L I T I E S Robot Research & Discovery • Systematically research and document innovative robots from academia, industry, and space agencies worldwide — covering manipulators, legged robots, soft robots, aerial robots, and space -specific platforms. • Analyse robot architectures, actuation mechanisms, sensing modalities, and reported performance to build a structured knowledge base informing Cosmoserve’s design decisions. • Track emerging robotics research publications, conferences (ICRA, IROS, RSS), and open - source hardware projects to ensure findings stay current. Simulation Tool Evaluation • Research, benchmark, and compare robotics simulation platforms — Gazebo, MuJoCo, PyBullet, Webots, NVIDIA Isaac Sim — for physics fidelity, sensor modelling, real -time capability, and ROS integration. • Select the most appropriate simulation environment for each class of robot being studied and document trade -offs with clear justification. • Develop custom simulation plugins, environments, or sensor models where off -the -shelf tools fall short. Modelling & Simulation Development C O S M O S E R V E S P A C E > Robotics R&D Engineer > contact@cosmoserve.space • Build accurate kinematic and dynamic models of researched robots, including URDF/XACRO definitions, joint parameters, inertial properties, and contact geometries. • Implement simulation environments replicating the operational context of each robot — terrain, obstacles, gravity conditions, and sensor noise — to enable meaningful experiments. • Validate model fidelity by comparing simulation outputs against published benchmarks, experimental data, or physical hardware where available. • Characterise model limitations and uncertainty, and document them clearly for downstream use by software and systems engineers. Prototyping & Innovation • Design and build physical bench prototypes of the most promising robot concepts to validate simulation predictions against real -world behaviour. • Run structured hardware experiments, collect and analyse data, and iterate both the physical prototype and the simulation model based on findings. • Synthesise research and simulation insights into original proposals — novel mechanisms, algorithms, or system architectures — and present them as concrete innovation roadmap items for Cosmoserve. • Contribute findings to internal technical reports and, where applicable, external publications or patent filings.
