We are looking for a Satellite Systems Intern to help define how a satellite operates across different mission phases, operating modes, and nominal and off-nominal scenarios. The intern will work closely with the Systems Engineering team, which is responsible for defining satellite- and subsystem-level requirements, developing the Concept of Operations and Operations Concept, managing design changes and their system-level impact, and supporting verification and validation of the satellite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate mission objectives into structured satellite operational scenarios.
  • Define spacecraft modes, states, transitions and recovery paths.
  • Develop mission timelines and subsystem interaction flows.
  • Map operational activities to spacecraft and ground-segment functions.
  • Identify dependencies, edge cases, failure scenarios, and logical inconsistencies.
  • Coordinate with subsystem teams to ensure operational plans are technically feasible.
  • Prepare clear flowcharts, state diagrams, sequence diagrams, and system documentation.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of state-based and event-driven systems.
  • Excellent logical, analytical, and structured problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to reason through both nominal and contingency scenarios.
  • Ability to convert high-level objectives into clear system behavior and step-by-step operational logic.
  • Strong technical writing and diagramming skills.
  • Comfortable identifying assumptions and working through ambiguous or incomplete requirements.
  • Pursuing or recently completed a relevant engineering or technical degree.

Preferred

  • Experience with spacecraft, CubeSat, robotics, embedded-system, or autonomous-system projects.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering, mission operations, state machines, SysML, or requirements development.
  • Basic scripting or modelling experience using Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar tools.
