### Role overviewPranos Fusion is seeking an exceptional Magnet Engineer to lead the design, fabrication oversight, and testing of high-temperature superconducting magnet systems for our fusion device. You will play a central role in one of the most technically demanding aspects of our fusion program - building high-field HTS coils that are reliable, manufacturable, and compatible with tokamak operational requirements.### Key responsibilities* Lead electromagnetic design of HTS magnet coils (TF, PF, CS) using FEM tools (COMSOL, Opera, or equivalent).* Specify and select REBCO or BSCCO HTS tape conductors; evaluate vendor qualification data.* Design mechanical structure for HTS coils: winding packs, impregnation schemes, support structures, and joints.* Develop and oversee winding, insulation, heat-treatment (if applicable), and impregnation processes.* Lead quench analysis and develop quench protection strategies tailored to HTS coil behavior.* Plan and execute cryogenic test campaigns, including ramp-to-design current, quench characterization, and joint resistance measurement.* Collaborate with electrical, cryogenic, and structural engineers to integrate magnet systems into the full device.* Track HTS conductor and magnet technology developments; contribute to the selection of next-generation conductor strategies.### Qualifications* Master's, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Superconductivity, or Materials Science.* 5+ years of direct experience designing, building, or testing HTS or LTS superconducting magnets for fusion, accelerators, or MRI applications.* Hands-on experience with REBCO (e.g., CORC, Roebel, CICC) or BSCCO HTS conductors.* Proficiency in EM design software: COMSOL Multiphysics, Opera 3D, or similar FEM codes.* Strong understanding of HTS critical surface (Ic vs. B, T, strain), AC losses, and joint technology.* Experience with cryostat design and cryogenic test infrastructure for large magnet assemblies.* Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams and manage external fabricators.### Preferred experience* Experience with no-insulation (NI) or metal-insulation (MI) HTS coil winding techniques.* Knowledge of demountable magnet joint technology for fusion tokamaks.* Background in neutron irradiation effects on HTS tape performance.* Experience at Commonwealth Fusion Systems, MIT PSFC, NHMFL, CERN, or a comparable HTS magnet program.* Familiarity with cost modelling and manufacturing scale-up of HTS conductor systems.
